TREATMENT [IN ALLOPATHY]

Amantadine, Anticholinergic drugs, Levodopa, Dopamine agonists, Selegiline, COMT inhibitors, Atypical antipsychotics. These drugs are used singly or in combinations depending upon the stage of disease and the symptoms. The drugs have numerous side effects like nausea, postural hypotension, cardiac arrhythmias, dystonia, mental disturbances, dyskinesias etc. ; also none of these drugs have an effect on the underlying disease process which consists of neuronal degeneration.

Surgical measures – Thalamotomy or pallidotomy; surgical implantation of adrenal medullary or fetal substantia nigra tissue into the caudate nucleus are the surgeries performed, but investigators have failed to substantiate such claims or have found only modest benefits or major adverse effects.
